Mindset is everything
Your mindset and intentions dictate how you are going to feel, act and respond every single day. So why don’t we give it more thought and attention?
This is a very busy time of year for me at work. Before I started my coaching sessions, it was just a given that I knew I was going to feel stressed and overwhelmed which would lead to me feeling anxious. Now, after nearly 2 years of coaching and getting to know myself better, I have been able to identify my triggers and understand them before I get overwhelmed with anxious feelings. A big game changer has been focusing on my mindset.
You choose how you want to show up, every single day.
By the time Thursday came around this week, I couldn’t think of anything worse than another 2 whole days of work. I was dreading it. But I made a choice – I chose to change my mindset. There is no point in waking up and getting stuck in a negative mindset for the rest of the day…so, what could I do to change my mindset and choose actions that I knew were going to make me feel good?
I knew I couldn’t do anything about the fact that I had to go to work, or that it was going to be busy. These things are outside of my control. But I can control my thoughts, my feelings and my behaviours. So, instead of laying in bed until the absolute last minute before I had to get up, I got up early and did some breathing and yoga. I know that these 2 things make me feel good.
The choice to shift my mindset to focus on the things I can control, and what I knew was going to make me feel good made a huge difference to my day!
I recognised when I started to feel overwhelmed halfway through the day, so instead of getting to ‘crazy Ami’ mode by 5pm, I put in my headphones and did a 5 minute meditation at lunch.
I also chose to skip the gym that afternoon and give myself some time to rest and relax.
By actively thinking about what I wanted and what was going to make me feel good, I was searching for the things during the day to switch up my mindset. I can choose the thoughts I have and the perspective I have, so I made the effort to try to have a positive mindset where I could. It doesn’t mean that every moment of the day is going to be perfect – but any day that I can choose to start with meditation and yoga instead of total dread is a good day for me!
Are you sick of feeling overwhelmed, stressed and anxious? It’s time to get your sparkle back.
